Science Secondary School Kafin Hausa, in Jigawa State represented the North-West zone in the NNPC National Quiz Competition finals, emerging third, thereby beating North-East, South-West and South-East schools, after Abuja and Akwa Ibom (1st and 2nd positions, respectively).
The astonishing point here is, those that emerged 1st and 2nd are private schools, with a very conducive environment for teaching and learning,  with school fees of not less than a million naira per year, per child. So, I want use this medium to appeal to the northern state governors to invest more in education in order to move the region forward because, whenever Nigerians gather to discuss the state of education in the country or the region in particular, we all seem to reach a consensus rather hurriedly, that our educational system has deteriorated. This is why we should as a matter of urgency redeem its lost glory.
I am praying that new schools are built and the dilapidated ones renovated. We should have standard schools across the region, well-staffed and well-equipped with functional libraries and laboratories up to WAEC standard. Let classrooms have modern instructional technology, computers connected to the internet, projectors, and more. 
Our governors should remember that teachers cannot perform miracles without necessary teaching tools, so they should be provided everywhere in the region. The welfare of staff is one area that must be considered, with salaries and other entitlements paid promptly. Scholarships, too, should be awarded without sentiment and training and re-training of staff in place regularly in order to improve and keep the staff up to date.
Someone once said: “The quality of education and the level of educational attainment of a people determine the quality of its leaders and people”. I agree with that, one hundred per cent. So, some students should be send abroad to study in different areas of specialization in order to take region to greater heights.
At this juncture, I will appeal to His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru, the Jigawa State governor to celebrate and appreciate the students and the school for a job well-done as an avenue to encourage them and others to be at their best and have the zeal, courage, passion, and determination to face further challenges and to grab more opportunities which will bring glory to the state, region and the country at large.
