The only goal of the match was scored in the 87th minute by striker Chinedu Efugh who dribbled through a hitherto rock-solid Bayesla United defence to round up the goalkeeper for the only goal of the matc.

Although Enyimba was highly favoured to lift the trophy, the people’s elephant could not beat a less fancied Warri Wolves who fought them to a standstill as the match ended 1-1 with Okoye Micheal and Okoyoti Michael scoring for Enyimba and Wolves respectively.

Thus, Heartland who won their match against Bayelsa United the club that denied them this year’s league title on the final day of the competition garnered six points better than Enyimba who ended with five points.

Therefore, while Enyimba settled for the second position with a cash reward of N3m, Bayelsa United ended in the third position leaving the last position for Warri Wolves who ended this year’s league in the fourth position.

In a post match press briefing, coach of Heartland, Kelechi Emetole expressed happiness with his players’ outstanding performance.

He said the victory would spur his side to do better in the CAF Champions League saying the victory has confirmed the new spirit in the team.

On his part, former junior international, John Owoeri said the club has atoned for its failure to win the league trophy.

The player expressed joy that in as much as he missed the opportunity of ending last season with a medal, he would for a long time savour the Super Four victory which he said is equally important.
