He disclosed that the road construction project was mainly funded by the African Development Bank (ADB) and the state government, adding that it consumed the sum of N20.3 billion.
Speaking to journalists in Calabar, Charles said they have met their objectives of improving access to interior environment, regretting that the rains have delayed their work.
He said this feat has been achieved despite some challenges comprising unprecedented heavy rains, inflation and rise in cost of construction materials, payment of compensation for destruction of economic crops as well as “site problems.”
He said they have also strengthened the environmental baseline of the state according to studies spearheaded by Messrs Roughton International of United Kingdom.
Okongoh said: “Our mandate is to rehabilitate 474 km of rural roads across the hinterlands.  Although the original design by the African Development Bank was to construct rural roads to lateritic surface, Governor Liyel Imoke opted for asphaltic surfacing in order to ensure durability and effective serviceability.”
