Vigilantes have arrested 68-year-old herbalist, Baba Dangana, for allegedly planting charms inside a graveyard in the Jijimgba community, Kwaku ward, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
Moses Yohana, a vigilante in the area, said the incident occurred on Saturday around 9:37 pm.
He said the herbalist reportedly went to a graveyard in the village and planted some charms.
According to him, the suspect was apprehended when vigilantes from the neighboring Gumanyi village were on patrol.
‘’They spotted the herbalist inside the graveyard and upon seeing him, the vigilantes waited for him to emerge. ‘’When he attempted to escape, he was immediately apprehended.
‘’The vigilantes then led the herbalist back to the graveyard and ordered him to remove the planted items, which were confirmed to be charms.
Dangana was subsequently taken to the palace of the village head, who instructed the vigilantes to hand him over to the police at the Kwaku outpost,’’ the vigilante narrated.
Ishaku Ayuba, a community member, said the herbalist had long been suspected of planting various charms at the graveyard.
“It is God that exposed him today,” Ayuba said. “You see that man sometimes goes to the graveyard at midnight, and one would be wondering what he has been doing there.”
A police source at the Kwaku police outpost confirmed the herbalist’s arrest in the Jijimgba community, adding that the suspect is currently under investigation.
However, the spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment regarding the arrest at the time of filing this report.
