An Upper Area Court in Naka, Benue State, has sentenced a herder, Adamu Ango, to four years in prison for violating the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017.
Presiding Judge Gbagyo Orkpe delivered the judgment in case No: UACN/CR12/2025.
The court found Ango, a native of Doma in Nasarawa State, guilty of the offence and ordered him to serve his sentence at the Makurdi Medium Prisons.
He was also directed to pay a fine of N1 million.
During the trial on Friday, Ango pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, claiming he was deceived by the cattle owner.

“I am pleading with the court to hold the cattle and allow me to go and inform the owner because he is the one that deceived me,” he told the court.
