Highway robber to die by hanging

An Ondo High Court in Akure has sentenced one James Ofem to death by hanging after it found him guilty of armed robbery.
Ofem and his gang members were said to have been terrorising residents and motorists on the Ondo/Ore expressway for some time.
Delivering judgment, Justice Williams Olamide said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt with lots of evidence that the accused person was indeed, guilty of the crime.
The prosecutor from the Department of Public Prosecution in the Ondo State Ministry of Justice, Wale Bamisile, had recalled how Ofem and his accomplices, on July 12, 2017, conspired to rob Adamu Mustapha of his iPad, Infinix and Nokia handsets.
Another witness, Sergeant Franklin Alabi, attached to Enuowa police station, tendered the exhibit recovered from the suspect before the court.
The victim, Mustapha, who appeared in court as a prosecution witness, explained that Ofem’s gang waylaid him and his motor-boys around Liyetu village on Ondo/Ore road.
He added that the gang barricaded the road, and as the bus he was driving rammed into it, the hoodlums emerged from the bush, beat them mercilessly and robbed two of them of their belongings.
