The slumping occurred at a very opportune moment when Yusufu’s lawyer Theodore Madaki was pushing for his client to be granted bail while the prosecuting counsel Rotimi Jacobs was arguing against bail. We sympathise with Yusufu, who had earlier been convicted for stealing N23 billion in pension funds, for the latest turn in his personal health. The only question that must be asked at this point is, how come he never slumped during his numerous visits to the banks, when he was smiling his way to the vaults to make huge lodgments out of other people’s entitlements?
During his earlier trial, he was made to forfeit at least a dozen choice properties that he had erected or acquired all over the country while he served as deputy director of accounts of the Police Pension Fund. Building so many structures must have been a strenuous exercise, but there is no record to suggest that Oga Yusufu ever slumped at a construction site when he was erecting all those buildings. Is it now that he remembered to slump after spending only a few days at the Kuje Prison while awaiting trial?
Look, the real slumping belonged to the hapless police pensioners that Yusufu robbed. All these years, when the newspapers were reporting that police pensioners were slumping in the endless queues for pension “verification,” Oga Yusufu never slumped out of sympathy or a pang of conscience. It is now that he remembered to slump. Na lie.
One kain reference point
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is the reference point for Nigeria, according to the Northern Governors Forum [NGF] in its message to mark the former president’s 76th birthday. I have no quarrel with that, except that I will like to hear on what matter Obasanjo is the reference point.
The statement by NGF’s chairman Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu said Obasanjo “has remained the reference point on good governance, statesmanship, diplomacy, conflict resolution and prudent management of resources.” Haba! Are you joking? Are you visiting Nigeria from Mars? The Obasanjo presidency was the opposite of good governance. His crude activities since he left office are the opposite of statesmanship. His approach to political issues is the opposite of diplomacy. His handling of Odi and Zaki Biam was the opposite of conflict resolution. And his spending $16 billion on power projects without generating a single additional megawatt of electricity was the opposite of prudent management of resources.
People are saying that Babangida Aliyu has presidential ambitions in 2015. Is this man your presidential reference point?
Not your godfather, true
PDP national chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was quoted earlier this week as saying that President Goodluck Jonathan is not his political godfather because “I was voted democratically as chairman of PDP and I know what I am doing.”
Democratically elected? When? Were you not roundly defeated in straw polls at the PDP North East caucus meeting in Bauchi? How many votes did you get there? Even at the national convention in Abuja, was it not somebody that engineered the last minute “voluntary withdrawal” of your 11 opponents leading to your emerging unopposed? Which kain democratically elected? I beg.
