Jigawa state Hisbah Board has arrested 103 women in the state for alleged prostitution and alcohol consumption.
The arrest, according to Hisbah commandant Alhaji Aliyu Sa’idu Galamawa was made during the routine operations between December last year and March, 2016.
The Sharia legal system that prohibits sales, drinking of alcohol and prostitution in the state was introduced in 2001.
Galamawa said his men had arrested seven persons last week for allegedly drinking alcohol at Gidan Dogo beer parlour Yadi quarters in the state capital.
He said the accused persons were arrested during a joint raid by his command, vigilante and police following a tip off, the comprised three women and four men including the manager of the beer parlour.
He explained that during the raid they found 21 cartons of beer with liquor content, 374 cartons with empty bottles, several cans and plastic beer, 85 chairs, 10 set of tables and three set of television.
According to him, all the items were now under the custody of his command while the accused were handed over to the police for investigation and arraignment.
Similarly, the board had, in several raids it carried out in December, arrested 96 persons for alleged prostitution and drinking of alcohol in Gujungu town of Taura local government area in the state.
He said: “The suspects comprised 70 women and 26 men. We embarked on such raid in order to inculcate discipline among the youth by way of discouraging them from engaging in social vices. I am therefore, advising parents to caution their wards against engaging in such vices.
