Operatives of the Hisbah Board in Kebbi State have arrested a man allegedly found hiding inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.
The Director of Sharia at the board, Sirajo Kamba, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
Kamba said residents of the area alerted the Hisbah board around 12:15 a.m. on Monday, May 18, after noticing a man entering the woman’s house.
“The residents suspected an illicit affair contrary to Islamic teachings and decided to notify the authorities,” he said.
According to him, operatives of the board were immediately deployed to investigate the report.
“Upon arrival, officers requested permission to search the house, but the woman initially denied that anyone else was inside.
“However, she later allowed a thorough search, during which the suspect was discovered concealed inside a ‘Ghana Must-Go’ bag,” Kamba stated.
He added that preliminary investigation revealed an alleged romantic relationship between the suspect and the married woman.
Kamba said both suspects allegedly admitted to the relationship during interrogation and would be arraigned in court under Islamic law.
How neighbours alerted Hisbah
Residents of the area said the arrest has continued to generate discussion within the community due to the unusual manner in which the suspect was found.
A resident, Nafiu Abubakar, told our correspondent that the man had reportedly been visiting the woman’s matrimonial home for some time, although neighbours were initially unsure of the nature of the relationship.
“The incident confirmed what many residents had long suspected about his visits to the house,” he said.
According to him, the man usually visited when the woman’s husband was away and had been seen loitering around the area before sneaking into the house.
Another resident, Bello Usman, who said he knew the woman’s husband, claimed the husband was not often at home.

“It was after midnight and many people were still outside when the man arrived. Some residents who had been monitoring his movements became suspicious and alerted Hisbah,” he said.
Usman added that operatives later searched the house and discovered the suspect hiding inside the bag.
He said the man was subsequently arrested by officials of the Hisbah Board for alleged involvement in an illicit affair.
