Thieves on Sunday invaded the Federal Housing Estate in Shere in Mpape community in Bwari Area Council of the FCT and stole Maggi, salt and other food items.

Following the incident, residents appealed to the federal government to improve security in the area, as well as find a solution to the hunger in the land.

Mrs Patience Jacob, a resident of the estate, said, “We no longer sleep at night as hoodlums have taken over the area, stealing and beating up their victims.

“Yesterday at about 11pm these hoodlums were in my neighbour’s house. They broke their door into pieces, but luckily my neighbours hid inside the courtyard.

“The hoodlums stole Maggi, a decoder and salt from the house.”

Mrs Jacob pleaded with the federal government to fence the estate and mount a security patrol team in the area.

Mrs Esther Adeosi, a public servant, said stealing was now a daily routine in the area, adding that she was tired of the situation.

Mrs Adeosi said that residents were now afraid to carry out their daily activities as the hoodlums could attack them at any time of the day.

She also pleaded with the government to provide adequate security personnel to ensure the safety of residents.

Mr Victor Obi, another resident, said, “Early this morning a woman who was going to work was robbed. She was beaten and her phone, bag and lunch pack were taken from her.

“I am begging the federal government to provide jobs for the youths, because the stealing that occurred yesterday and this morning shows they are hungry thieves.” (NAN)
