Hoodlums, suspected to be herders, have shot dead a young man, identified as Laminu Shehu, in Ugbabo -Oganigwu community in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Our correspondent learnt that the incident took place on Tuesday night in the community.

The deceased was said to be in the company of his two siblings when they ran into the ambush of the suspects.

“The circumstances behind his killing are shrouded in mystery. We gathered that Late Shehu was coming with his siblings and met the suspects on their way to a location in the village when the incident happened.

“It may be an ensued altercation or an attempted kidnap that led to the shooting of the young man.

“The suspects shot him on the head and he died before help could come in. Two of his brothers, who escaped from the scene of the incident, brought the news to the village,” said Joel Atama, a resident in the neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, the incident is said to have created tension in the community, with many of the residents calling for investigation and action.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William could not be reached for comment on the incident.
