Chairman of the committee Rep Adamu Mohammed expressed this when he led members of the committee to a one-day retreat organized by the Presidential Technical Committee on Land Reform recently held in Abuja.
He reiterated the commitment of the National Assembly to collaborate with all stakeholders in the housing sector to find lasting solutions that will improve land administration as it holds the preclude to housing in Nigeria.
Chairman, Presidential Technical Committee on Land Reform, Prof. Peter Adeniyi said establishment of the commission will enable Nigerians to have access to loan facilities that will enhance growth as well as the economic fortunes of the nation and called for expedite action on the passage of the Land Reform Agenda Bill for socio-economic development of the nation.
He advocated for systematic land titling registration (SLTR) saying only 3% of Nigeria’s land has been documented and most states of the federation have issued less than 10,000 Certificates of Occupancy since 1978 when the Land Use Act was promulgated.
He said, “There are lots of advantages to be derived from the land reform agenda. It will give all Nigerians titles to their land.
“The ownership of land will not be in dispute and it will enable the people to have access to bank facilities.
“With it, you may come from the remotest village, the fact remains that you can use the title to obtain facility and this will go a long way to boost the economic fortunes of Nigerians.”
