Houseboy, friend remanded over murder of UK-based bizman

An FCT High Court in Jabi has remanded two men accused of conspiracy and murder by the police in prison.

The duo of Sunday Dauda and Peter Ntu were said to have conspired and murdered one Kennedy Mba on July 9, 2017.

Police prosecutor Orji Kalu told the court that the deceased, a businessman based in the UK, was alleged to have been killed in his Abuja residence, No. 21, IBM Haruna Crescent, Utako, Abuja, when he came on a visit to Nigeria.

Kalu said one of the defendants, Dauda, was a domestic staff to the deceased whenever he was in Nigeria.

The prosecutor said on the day of the incident, Dauda conspired with his friend, Ntu, who he invited to the house and they both carried out the act.

Kalu said the offences contravene sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code, CAP P6 Law of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2010. The defendants however pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.

The trial judge, Justice Vera Venda, following an oral application for bail made by their counsels, said the offences for which the accused were charged were not ordinarily bailable.

Venda also told the defense counsels to come before the court with a formal application in writing.

She adjourned the matter until June 6 to hear the new bail application.
