A 35-year-old housewife, Sarah Gideon, appeared before a Kaduna Magistrate Court on Thursday, accused of stealing a goat.

Gideon, a resident of the Narayi Area of Kaduna, faces a single charge of theft. Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Luka, informed the court that the complaint was lodged by Martins Bobai of Karji, Kaduna, at Barnawa Police Station on Tuesday.

According to Luka, the defendant, who was working on a farm near Bobai’s house, allegedly untied a goat that was tethered outside the complainant’s residence and attempted to make off with it.

Luka stated that a neighbour of the complainant witnessed Gideon struggling with the goat and raised an alarm, leading to her apprehension. 

When questioned, she was reportedly unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for her actions.

The prosecutor asserted that the alleged offense violates Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. (NAN)

However, Gideon pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety of the same amount.

The case has been adjourned until August 14 for hearing. (NAN)
