The police in Jigawa have arrested a 20-year-old housewife for allegedly pouring hot soup on a 10-month-old boy leading to the death of the infant.
Daily Trust gathered that the suspect, Hassana Hamza of Gantsa town in Buji Local Government Area of the state, who is a junior wife, emptied a pot of baobab leaf soup on the baby and its mother during a fight with the senior wife, Zuwaira Hamza.
It was gathered that trouble started in the family when Zuwaira, 26, attempted to caution Hassana on water that was getting into her room while sweeping the kitchen.
The situation, it was gathered, went out of control when the duo started having hot verbal exchanges and in the process, Hassana, who was cooking dinner for the family took the soup pot from fire and pour the content on Zuwaira, who was carrying her baby in hand.
It was further gathered that both Zuwaira and her child sustained high degree burns but the child’s was more severe which led to its death at the hospital they were taken to.
The spokesman of Jigawa State Police Command, SP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the incident, adding that “the suspect has since been charged to court.”
