The police in Ogun State have arrested a 47-year-old housewife for allegedly beating to death an 11-year-old nephew of her husband over the allegation that he stole her N6,500.
Mrs. Joy Egeonu was arrested following a report by the deceased’s mother, Ijeoma, at the Agbado Divisional Police Station.
Ijeoma reported that her son who was living with her elder brother and his wife at Opeilu in Agbado was beaten to death by her brother’s wife on February 3, adding that the suspect took the corpse to Ifo where she buried him.
The spokesman of the Oyo State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said based on the strength of the report, the suspect was arrested.
Oyeyemi said during interrogation, the suspect claimed she suspected the boy as the person who stole her money which prompted her to flog him to the point of coma, and that he died while she was taking him to the hospital.
Oyeyemi further said the suspect also confessed that it was later discovered that the missing money was taken by her husband and not the boy.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for further investigation.
CP Iliyasu equally ordered for the arrest of the suspect’s husband who allegedly assisted in burying the boy in order to conceal evidence.
