A housewife, Safiya Yakubu, has been arrested by the police in Katsina State for allegedly being in possession of a Travor-21 rifle.

Safiya, told journalists during her parade, that the weapon belonged to her husband, one Yakubu of Runka village, which he used for kidnapping.

She said her husband and some of his friends have been into the business for long.

The Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, said the suspect was arrested after a raid was carried out on April 11 at Sabon Layin Sara village, Kafur LGA of the state which resulted in a fierce encounter with bandits.

Also, one Jibril Anas, a graduate of a university in the state, has said he was advised by his friends to buy the gun found on him for “self-protection”.

Anas said one Usman based in Benue linked him up with suppliers residing between Nasarawa and Benue state who got him the gun at the cost of N7,000.
