The chairman of Oke-Ero Local Government in Kwara State, Hon. James Fidipe, has narrated how collaborative efforts with the police and local hunters led to the rescue of some kidnapped wedding guests in the state.

The victims were said to be coming from Kogi State when they were ambushed by the gunmen at the weekend.

They have remained with their abductors since then who later contacted the families demanding N100 million ransom for their release.

The incident took place at Obbo-Ayegunle in Ekiti LGA of the state.

The police PPRO, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP) was yet to speak on the matter as of Thursday despite calls and text messages.

But speaking with the Daily Trust, Hon Fadipe, who was part of the rescue efforts, confirmed the incident.

He said, “Thirteen victims were involved including five from my council.

“After their kidnapping in Ekiti Local Government, we swung into action with the assistance of the police, vigilantes and traditional rulers.

“Although they demanded ransom, the good thing is that we didn’t pay a dime. They were later traced to an uncompleted building at Ero Omola Resort in Oke-Ero.

 “They were taken to cottage hospital for checks and later reunited with their families for the festive period,” he said.

Fadipe, who said communities in Kwara South, which is most affected by kidnapping, will continue to partner with government and all stakeholders to bring the problem to the barest minimum.
