Hearing has begun at an Ogba magistrate court, Lagos, in a case of sexual harassment against a 50-year-old man, Suleiman Mohammed.

The accused is answering a three-count charge of sexual harassment, molestation and indulging in a gay act.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Christopher John, told the court that Muhammed, on September 15, 2018, lured a boy into his house on Market Street, Isale Oja, Agege, bolted the door, stripped himself naked and started touching the boy’s body, begging him for sex.

Muhammed, if found guilty, may be jailed for an upward of 14 years, which is the penalty for gay practice as a criminal offence in Nigeria.

Presenting the case in court yesterday, John said that after stripping naked, the accused started pleading with the boy to open his anus for penetration.

The neighbours reported the matter at the station and Muhammed was arrested and taken to the Gender Section of the state police command.

The presiding magistrate, Mr Peter Nwaka, did not take Muhammed’s plea and also denied him bail.

He adjourned the case till October 25, 2018.
