An eye witness told our reporter that Dr Ali, who is the wife of a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmadu Ali, attended the summit the previous day, and decided to host some dignitaries at her home on April 27.

 

The eye witness explained further that, “Many important personalities were gathered at the woman’s house and were being entertained when a sound of explosion, a deafening sound went off. It hit the roof and the building just collapsed. It sounded like a bomb.  The guests took to their heels, while those in the neighbourhood made contacts with the fire service. By the time they arrived a lot of damage had been done to the building. A section of the building had been severely damaged.”

Though the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPPRO), Mr Charles Muka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), told journalists, following the incident that the damage was as a result of fire, the extent of damage to the building sent fears down the spines of Delta State residents who suspected that it might have been an extension of a new wave of attacks on prominent politicians from the state.

In the last few months, at least 14 prominent persons of Delta State origin have come under attacks in various ways. Among them was Mrs Mary Chidi, a local government chairperson who was kidnapped, the mother of Tony Elumelu who was kidnapped, the Managing Director of Leisure Home Hotels, Mr Nduka Odor, who was kidnapped and killed, Mrs Dorathy Amafor, who was kidnapped, and several others who were kidnapped or killed in the process.

Our attempt to speak with Dr Marian Ali on the incident failed as her Personal Assistant told Sunday Trust that she was too traumatised to speak to the press.
