The incident occurred around 2pm of last Sunday, as the groom Joshua Yamusa told Weekly Trust. He said his bride, named Tina Joshua took ill penultimate Friday after which she was taken to a hospital in Nasarawa Eggon. She was, however, discharged the following day.

 

Joshua, who works at a skill acquisition centre in Wamba, said that shortly after returning home on that fateful day, Tina asked him to buy guinea corn from the market for her to prepare kunu, a local soft drink so that she could entertain guests who would visit them that Sunday.

He said after she finished preparing the drink, she sent for her relative who is married and resides in Unguwar Rere, on the road to Assakio town. He said from there he stepped out, leaving her together with his younger sister Sati. Joshua said he didn’t hear anything from until when his sister called to inform him that his wife had died.

Sati Yamusa told Weekly Trust that they were sitting in the living room together with the sister of her brother’s bride who came from Unguwar Rere when Tina passed them and headed towards the bathroom.

She said shortly after, she also headed towards the bathroom to ease herself thinking that Tina might have finished using the bathroom. But upon reaching there, she saw Tina lying in a pool of her own blood. “One of her hands was inside her stomach while the other was holding her intestines,” Sati said.

She said from there she started crying for help so that the attention of the people of the area can be drawn to the scene. The residents came and helped to take Tina to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia.

Pastor Usaini Mako John, who was among the residents that took Tina to the hospital, told Weekly Trust that both the bride and her groom were his church members, he wasted no time in informing the police. The police later found the knife the bride allegedly used in stabbing herself to death.

Spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command ASP Cornelius Ocholi confirmed the story, saying investigation has since commenced. He urged the public to stop resorting to suicide at the slightest provocation.

Meanwhile, Weekly Trust investigation revealed that late Tina Joshua, who hailed from Alogani in Doma local government area of Nasarawa State, got married less than two months ago to Joshua who is also from the same ethnic group.

It was also learnt that late Tina was quarelling peacefully with her husband, who also said he had no rival while seeking for her hand in marriage.

The husband told Weekly Trust that he was searching for a teaching job for his wife because that was what she specialized in. “That was however not to be,” he said.
