I have thought about this long and hard and wondered what the cause is. First, we are not the only corrupt country on earth, and by the way, what right does another human have to judge and place you on a certain scale in the corruption list. I will first zero in on water supply. It is true that pipe-borne water is a big problem in Nigeria, even with the heavy rainfall witnessed this year. So what is the problem? Perhaps we need to learn how to put pipes in the right place beneath the ground and how to maintain them? Okay, the let us do that and get on with it.
Then there is the issue of bad roads. Wait, I thought it is the lack of technological know-how or something of that sought that is our challenge? Why then do we have bad roads? Is it not first a matter of finance before anything else? Does that mean we cannot get contractors that are capable and a suitable maintenance crew? How can Nigeria develop if something as simple as making roads is a big deal when other countries are talking about greater things?
Nigeria is perhaps, one of those few countries (if not the only one) where politicians sing about building roads and providing pipe-borne as a major campaign strategy. This makes one think that this lack of steady electricity supply issue is more than meets the eye. Solar energy is here. Can the government please look the other way and think of ways to subsidise it for citizens?
We have so much sun, what else do we need? There are estates here in Abuja where electrical power is their standby generator. If the government takes the issue of using solar power seriously, Nigerians will cease to worry about power outages. Perhaps then, Power Holding will find ways to fight the completion.
