Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Delta State chapter, Alhaji Maikudi Ningi, stated this during an interview with our reporter in Asaba, the state capital.
Ningi said the government and the people of Delta State are committed to having peaceful relationship with the over 3,000 members of his association in the state.
The chairman stressed that the state government in collaboration with the Delta State Police Command are always in touch with the leadership of the association whenever and wherever there was a misunderstanding between herdsmen and farmers and that such problems are always resolved amicably.
Answering questions on how he managed conflicts between cattle breeders and crop farmers in the state, Maikudi said the Jeep given to him has helped him to respond quickly to affected areas to find peaceful solution to crisis.
“Where I found that our members have encroached on farmlands, we assess the damage, pay compensation and warn the cattle breeders not to repeat same. In some instances I will tell our members to leave the area if the problem persists,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Emmanuel Oduaghan, the Delta State Police Command and the people of the state for their proactive approach and the peaceful co-existence between the herdsmen and farmers in the state, adding that they have recorded very significant success in their conflict resolution efforts.
“Wallahi, Delta State is the most accommodating to herdsmen in the whole of the south,”  Ningi declared.
