Classrooms that would typically sit silent during the long break came alive with the sound of laughter, curiosity, and determination. At the center of this transformation was Okachi Charity Foundation’s Free Summer School Program, an initiative by Faith Morey designed not just to teach, but to restore confidence and reimagine education for children in underserved communities.
Faith Morey’s led vision through Okachi Charity Foundation was simple yet profound: no child should be punished for the failures of the system meant to educate them. In a country where UNICEF estimates that 70% of 10-year-olds cannot read or understand a simple passage, the urgency was undeniable. Too many children in public schools had been pushed forward without skills or left behind without hope. Faith’s Summer School stepped boldly into this gap, offering more than lessons, it offered a second chance.
Launched in 2025 at State School Sangana, Port Harcourt, the pilot program opened its doors to children who had failed or barely passed their previous school year. Instead of being left idle at home, these children entered interactive classrooms where teachers used storytelling, games, and role-play to bring English, Math, and Science to life. Beyond academics, students were taught etiquette, leadership, and social skills – essentials often overlooked in traditional classrooms. They also joined vocational clubs like sewing, baking, and art, discovering creativity as a path to confidence and even future income.
The impact was striking. By the end of the summer, the transformation was undeniable. Children who had dreaded school began looking forward to the new academic year, ready to step back into their regular classrooms more confident, capable, and hopeful.
By 2030, Okachi Charity Foundation’s Summer School Program envisions operating in 20 Nigerian states, reaching 30,000 students and training hundreds of teachers in innovative, child-centered teaching methods. For Faith, this is more than academic intervention; it is a movement. A movement that proves when a child learns to bake a cupcake, master multiplication, or speak confidently before peers, they begin to believe in their future again.
