Potiskum who was a part of Yobe officials at the recently concluded hajj recalled Governor Gaidam ensured better accommodation for pilgrims in the holy land through government’s approval of N82 million to upgrade what was paid for by pilgrims. He added that Gaidam’s administration also offered free meals to each of 3007 pilgrims during their stay in Mina and Arafat at the peak of the hajj exercise.

The SSA also enumerated that Gaidam gave approval for the allocation of three hundred riyals (about N12,500) to each pilgrim for  the purchase of rams for the Sallah sacrifice known as hadaya beside offering another 200  riyals N9,000)  to each of them to cushion difficulties caused by delay in their return airlift.

The aide added that the Yobe government also offered each pilgrim a pair of white cloth (haram) that is compulsory for use by male pilgrims during some of the essential hajj rites.

Potiskum noted that the gestures by Gaidam’s administration was the first of its kind in the state and was very well appreciated by the generality of pilgrims from the state and even those from other states who got to know what the Yobe government did.
