To raise the standard of education in the country, the Federal Government should constantly train and retrain teachers to keep up with modern teaching methods, the Principal of Marist College, Yangoji, Rev Ifeanyi Mbaegbu, has said.
Rev Mbaegbu disclosed this when a delegation of the Nigerian Youth Organisation took a tour of the school facility in Yankoji.
He said apart from recruiting qualified and dedicated teachers, the government should also increase budgetary allocations on education to improve the facilities in the schools.
He also said a challenging, broad-based academic curriculum that prepares students for further studies should be adopted.
School facilities should also be improved upon to make the students and the teachers up-to-date, he explained.
He said Marist College which was established seven years ago was able to perform excellently in the first WAEC and NECO exams its students took last year because of the level of dedication of the staff as well as quality of its facilities.
