The chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Mohammed Maku–Sidi, has narrated how he managed to escape from being kidnapped when gunmen invaded his private residence.

 City & Crime had reported that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the NUT chairman’s residence two weeks ago, at Sabon -Wuse in Tafa LGA of Niger State, in which one of them was gunned down.

 Maku-Sidi, while narrating the incident during an interview with our reporter in Gwagwalada on Tuesday, said the incident happened around 11:23 pm on Saturday, after he returned from his village in Niger State where he went to see his sick mother.

 He said he was inside his bedroom when the gunmen who were five in number wielding AK-47 rifles forced his house gate into the compound.

 “When I heard a strange sound as they were asking one of my boys that is staying with me to open the gate, I quietly opened my window and saw them with guns,” he said.

 He said it was in the process that he asked his boy to ignore them, adding that he immediately picked up his pump action gun and took position waiting for the gunmen to enter the house.

“So as the leader of the gunmen forced the door open, I immediately opened fire and gunned down one of them on the spot,” he said.

 Maku-Sidi said the gunmen shattered the windows of his bedroom when he refused to open the door, adding that he immediately ordered his wife and the small kid to hide inside the bathroom.

 He said after he had gunned down one of them, the others took to their heel with bullet wounds, and one of them was later arrested at a hospital in the area.
