A middle aged man, Akilu Alhaji Saidu, who is in police custody has confessed and explained how he killed his three-year old step-daughter, police said.
Katsina State Police Command spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, said the suspect told police investigators that he dragged the deceased to an uncompleted building in Yankara Village of Faskari Local government where he twisted and broke her neck.
Isah said the suspect said he committed the act on 17 September under the influence of psychotropic substances (drugs that are capable of affecting the mind).
“The suspect took the deceased victim to an uncompleted building in the village, severely beat up the girl, she sustained various injuries before twisting and breaking her neck,” Isah said.
She was rushed to Funtua General Hospital where a doctor confirmed her dead, he added.
He said the matter which was reported to the police in Faskari has since been transferred to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
