An investigative journalist with the Province newspaper, a community publication in Ikotun, Lagos State, Edwin Chovwen, has declared that the attempt by suspected assassins to end his life would not debar him from writing investigate stories.
Narrating his ordeal, the member of Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and senior correspondent at the Province, said he was recently attacked while on official duty along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
“My Renault LSD 528 BG car was intercepted by a black, tinted-glass Mercedes Benz jeep and I was shot at. My car ran into a big pothole and almost somersaulted. I also narrowly escaped a collision with an oncoming fuel tanker. I managed to run out fast into a thick bush while sustaining serious injury in the process.
The suspected assassins made frantic efforts to comb the bush and eventually drove off, after a fruitless search that lasted over an hour,” he said.
Mr Edwin, who sustained various degrees of injury, was admitted to the hospital and has since reported the incident to law enforcement agents.
