How I sold 6-week-old twins for N.5m – Suspect
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old bricklayer, Kenneth Ofoke, for allegedly selling a set of six weeks old twins.
It was gathered that the suspect, who hails from Ebonyi State, sold the twins for N500,000 in Port Harcourt but was arrested in Edo.
Kenneth was among suspects paraded by the police commissioner in the state, DanMallam Muhammed, over various crimes.
The police alleged that the suspect had sold four babies before he was arrested, adding that he sold the twins for N500,000, and the other two for N30,000 and N50,000 respectively.
In an interview with journalists, Kenneth said the twins he sold were his children and that the incident happened August last year.
He said he sold the twins due to financial constraints and ill-health of the children and their mother, adding that he and the mother of the children decided to take the babies where they would be taken care off.
“I called my aunty who said I should bring them to Port Harcourt and she would help me out. When we got to Port Harcourt, my aunty told us that the children would be taken to an orphanage home and called the people who gave me N500,000 to take care of my wife in exchange for the babies,” he said.
When asked if he was married to the mother of the twins, he said: “The woman brought the children to me, saying I am their father. She said I impregnated her when I was befriending her.”
