How I wish you were dead

The human soul represents his personality. It has the tendency for good and evil. But it is more prone to evil. It is much more inclined to lead man to wickedness in the extreme. In fact most children of Adam whether black, white, red, yellow or a mixed bag is afflicted with the disease. Selfishness and the resort to arrogance is the whole mark of man’s existence. The mischief and the spread of bloodshed of his fellow man is legend. The bad news remains that a brother terrorises his brother or sister is a daily affair. So are the conflicts between a husband and his wife, and vice versa, neighbours and business partners that have gone beyond redemption.

A son killing his father or mother is not new. Arms merchants making billions of commissions from the US-Zionists industrial complexes that wish millions dead to create demand for weapons are for real. If a product has no market, like car thieves and cocaine pushing, child trafficking, hooligans or yanbanga, the area boys, the matter ends there. In Nigeria the Boko Haram conduit pipe to enrich generals and politicians in the Goodluck Jonathan’s era to wish more were dead including soldiers in the war front is on record. The top Nigerian ruling class and their children making brisk business to own choice properties with the blood money was unearthed in the press.

Tribal, national and world wars occur as a result of “how I wish you were dead” syndrome. While corrupt power mongers and brokers wish to see a reformer dead and buried many times before his death. Such is as it is in Nigeria and the world over – among friends and social groups in the offices, mosques, churches, markets, politics, and polygamous homes, heirs to throne, suitors of a girl or a boy among others.

The children of Adam with wicked souls are worse than beasts. Man is unfaithful to his Creator by the persistent and deliberate desire to disobey Him. It is not out of place that late Dr. Mamman Shata Katsina a genius in poetry per excellence had unkind words on man. He makes a comparison of man with an evil tree in his classical song where he says “Mutum mugun ice ka dasa shi ya fito idan kazo shan inuwa yayi maka tawaye”. In other words that the negative psychology of the man is such that like planting a tree with your sweat and when it matures and you attempt to enjoy the cool shade will kick you out. The parable of a pleasant tree and an evil tree are revealed in the Qur’an Ibrahim: 24-26.

The European history is laden with terrific accounts of bloody wars of attrition between Europeans. The cases between British, Germans and French against themselves for hundreds of years shedding the blood of each other and wishing to see each side dead and extinct. The Brexit has such empirical ‘how I wish you were dead’ as the root cause. It is not by accident that Britain opted to leave the EU. So were the death wishes and the conflicts by Russians versus French Napoleon and the massacres of the “evil looking Jews” in Europe in the ghettoes in the 1930’s. Now “the evil looking Jews” are using US to commit holocaust on Muslims.

Coming nearer home in Nigeria, the ‘how I wish you were dead’ recurred since the 60’s. Out of tribal and religious hatred or external influences we had good and patriotic leaders whose lives were assassinated by drunkards and clueless jingoists. The objectives were not achieved other than taking the country steps backwards. Nigeria had several bloody coups were those who wished those in power had little or nothing to offer. While those who should be wished dead that created environment for corruption, underdevelopment, and pessimism had a field day. Because of the narrow-minded view of ‘how I wish you were dead’, the objectives of the coup plotters never saw the light of the day. Nigeria is the worst for it and the master minds have been executed. So what profit could one pin-point for the clueless massacres?

The good news is that when those who wished Buhari were dead plotted their scheme, they were disappointed. One, that Nigerians for once came out openly and patriotically to pray for him was a success story. Even if he were dead, that it touched their hearts is unprecedented. Two, to their temporary disappointment, Almighty Allah answered their prayers. He does the unthinkable. Three, that the corrupt who believe that looting public treasury is like drinking holy water and must do so at all costs, will pay whether Buhari is dead or alive.

The youth that constitute the teeming majority have started the silent revolution and so any politician who believes will parade himself in public as a looter will have him/herself to blame. Four, those that rode on the back of Buhari to position themselves in the corridors of power for selfish agenda, 2019 will be a different ball game. Finally, the revolution to address corruption and corrupt elements has reached auto-pilot and therefore irreversible. And that is the beginning of accountability and power coming back to the people.
