Since its establishment 17 years ago, the Kano State University of Science and Technology Wudil (KUST), has churned out thousands of graduates in various academic disciplines who have made marks across the state and even the country as a whole.

However, the recent graduation of 39 students by the KUST with first class degrees, has undoubtedly elevated the university to a new enviable status that has grabbed the attention of people both from within and outside the state.

On its 4th convocation since inception, the Vice Chancellor of the varsity, Professor Shehu Alhaji Musa had announced the graduation of 3, 212 students cutting across the 27 departments of the university in a feat not seen previously in the history of the institution.

Kano Chronicle reports that 39 of the students were honoured with first class certificates in various disciplines, in addition to the 31 others who acquired post-graduate qualifications for the first time since the establishment of the university.

Announcing the break-down of categories of qualifications, Prof. Musa disclosed that 698 graduates obtained Second Class Upper division, while1, 443 finished with Second Class Lower certificates respectively.

He added that 930 of the students obtained Third Class degrees, just as 102 others graduated with Pass in purely science and technology based courses with emphasis on agriculture.

Professor Musa attributed the successes recorded in the institution to the support of government and international partners.

He revealed that the institution had recently secured full accreditation from the National University Commission (NUC) of 27 academic Courses operational in the university and recruitment of over 200 academic staff approved by the state government to strengthen the manpower development.

The vice chancellor added that the university has concluded all necessary arrangement to commence its Doctorate Degree programme in Agro-Economics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who congratulated the graduates also promised to sponsor the first class candidates to post-graduate levels.

He revealed government’s plan for mass recruitment of teachers in the state civil service, assuring that all candidates with good degrees could have an opportunity.

Similarly, Chancellor of the state-owned institution,  Aliko Dangote applauded the giant stride of the university for producing graduates worthy in character and learning.

He urged the university management to maintain the standard of producing competent manpower urgently needed to turn around the fortunes of the country.

Dangote, while congratulating the graduates, also urged them to continue to be worthy ambassadors of the institution.

Also at the event, a former governor of the old Kano state, late Alhaji Abubakar Rimi was honoured posthumously by the KUST with an honorary doctorate degree of Science for his outstanding contributions to the development of the state.

In a pre-convocation press conference, the vice chancellor said late Rimi, who was the first Kano civilian governor, contributed immensely to the development of education in the state, adding that his innovations, including the overseas scholarship had a great impact on education in the state.

Equally, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II together with a renowned academic, Alhaji Mustapha Ibrahim had also been conferred with honorary awards.
