A resident of Abuja, Best Osamuyi, whose vehicle was stolen about three years ago, has finally recovered his Toyota car at a checkpoint in Suleja, Niger State.

Osamuyi, who resides in one of the FCT communities, told Abuja Metro yesterday that he lost the vehicle in June 2022.

“It was stolen in front of a hospital in Wuse 2, Abuja, where my wife was admitted for delivery. I spent my night in the hospital, but unfortunately, when I checked on the car in the morning, it was nowhere to be found. There was a CCTV camera there, but it couldn’t capture the incident. So, I reported the matter to the police division in Utako,” he recounted.

“Thereafter, I rested my case until about a week ago when I received a call from the headquarters of the Niger State Traffic Management Agency (NISTMA) in Minna, the state capital.

“The officer told me that somebody had approached their zonal office in Suleja for annual car document renewal, but that my phone contact was still attached to the data system. Hence, they wanted to find out whether I had sold off the car. I told them that the vehicle was stolen from me about three years ago, and I had been looking for it all the while.”

Also speaking yesterday via a phone interview, the Zonal Commander of NISTMA in Suleja, Zakari Abubakar Saka, said the vehicle was impounded by their officials at a checkpoint in Suleja. After checking their data system, it was discovered that the vehicle had been on the wanted list.

He stated that the police in Suleja were informed about the development and immediately took over the case.

The vehicle’s owner, Best Osamuyi, said the car was later handed over to the police division in Utako, from where he retrieved it.

It was further learned that the person found in possession of the vehicle was released on bail, along with a car dealer in Suleja who had allegedly sold the vehicle to him.

Efforts are ongoing to locate another man who took the vehicle to a Suleja car stand.
