The NDDC, which sponsored the festival as part of its 25th anniversary, has since reassured the public of its commitment to transparency and sports development aimed at empowering the youth in the region.

In a related development, Alabo Boma Iyaye, the Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the NDDC and chairman of the NDSF Main Organising Committee (MOC) said, “This festival has provided an opportunity for bonding among the youth of our region, memories that they will carry all their lives. We are happy at the NDDC to have made this platform available.

“We have received commendations from all over the country, and the MOC reached a decision today to recommend to the NDDC Board that this festival should be held every two years,” he said.

Beyond on-field performances, hosting the festival in Uyo came with significant economic impact as hotels brimmed with guests, transport services recorded a boom and local vendors made brisk business. So, for Akwa Ibom State, the festival translated into job creation, visibility and a renewed sense of regional belonging.

Looking forward, stakeholders believe the NDSF is here to stay. With the 22nd edition of the NSF to be staged in Abeokuta on the horizon, states like Bayelsa are already shifting gears.

In this regard, Igali said, “While we revel in this achievement, our eyes must now turn to the bigger challenge ahead. It is time to rest, recover and prepare to raise the bar again.”

For many athletes, the weeklong event in Uyo changed their lives significantly. For the region, it has ignited a new consciousness about the power of sports to unify, empower and inspire a generation.

From the rivers of Bayelsa to the plains of Delta and the hills of Ondo, the Niger Delta has shown that beyond the messy business of oil and gas, it is also endowed with extraordinary sporting talents that require a platform like the one provided by the NDDC to excel internationally.
