The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja chapter, and other members of the legal profession have extolled the qualities of the late chairperson of the association, Hauwa Shekerau.

Members of the legal profession gathered for a valedictory session in honour of Shekerau, who died on September 15 after a brief illness in Abuja.

The vice chairman of the association, Chioma Onyenucheya-Uko cited the speech of Chuck Palahniuk, which was quoted by the deceased in a function recently, that “we all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.”

She said Shekarau had 25 years of impeccable legal practice, a staunch human rights activist and a gender advocate, who worked tirelessly for women and children.

The president of the NBA, Olumie Akpata Esq said “Hauwa will always be remembered for good she had done. Her commitment to the cause of justice and protection of women, weak and vulnerable members of society will forever be remembered and greatly missed.”

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN); the Acting Chief Judge of the FCT, Hussein Baba Yusuf; senior advocates of Nigeria: Ikechukwu Ezechukwu, Mazi Afam Osigwe and others attended the event.
