How social media causes poor reading among students

The social media has contributed to poor reading habit among university students, stakeholders say.

Mr. Audu Cornelius, a librarian at  the University of Maiduguri said social networks have negative effects on students and that students only read books if they are about to write tests.

A 400 Level Pharmacy student, Aliyu Musa, said he read books to pass exams and only visited the library to use the free internet service.

Henry Nelson, a 500 Level student of Chemical Engineering said he read at his leisure time and paid much attention to social media.

Dr. Kachami Ahaji Waziri, a veterinarian said students read more books in the 80s because there are many sources of information on the internet now.

Mark Samuel, a Civil Engineer said students gave more of their time to social media which promote poor reading habit.

 Nelson is of University of Maiduguri
