The family of Kabiru Yaro in Layin Minister Malumfashi local government area of Katsina state have been thrown into mourning following alleged murder of their 21-year-old son, Abdulmalik Kabir.

Kabir, a level 300 computer science student of Umaru Musa Yara’Adua University, (UMYU), was on Sunday night, 19th November, 2017, allegedly attacked by three people around Kofar Fada area of the town. His crime was ‘a warning to one Hussaini Abdu to stay away from his sister, Amira Kabiru who is an 18 year old girl in her second year at a senior secondary school.

It was a double tragedy for the Yaro family as only 40 days ago they lost a 10-year-old son to leukaemia.

Kano Chronicle gathered that Amira and Hussaini were said to be in a relationship which the family did not consent to on the ground that she is still in secondary school.

However, trouble started when the deceased asked the suitor on phone not to go near the girl until she finishes her secondary school.

Later on, the suitor and two others teamed up and attacked the deceased on the ground that he had no moral ground to stop their friend from dating thesister.

Speaking on the incident, the deceased father, Yaro, 52, said I left home about 7pm for evening prayers on that fateful Sunday, when my wife called me on phone asking me to please rush back home.

On arrival, I met Kabir and the rest of my family soiled with blood. Upon inquiry, he said some people attacked him because he warned them to stay away from Amira and stop seeing her on the ground that he realised they were not well mannered persons.

Yaro added that he asked him whether there was anybody around when the incident happened and he mentioned his friend Abdulmalik Abdulnasir, “then I called him (Abdulnasir) and together conveyed Kabir to Malumfashi general hospital.”

‘We got to the hospital at about 8.30pm where we met a nurse who, on seeing his condition, rushed and called a doctor. His front teeth were severely damaged and lower jaw seemed broken; there was no heavy deep cut wound on his body but many bruises and blood stain from them. Kabiru kept shouting ‘‘my head!’’ since when we were at home,” he said.

Yaro said after examining his condition the doctor and a dentist suggested an X-ray and drugs were prescribed for him and after that they returned home.

“The following morning, we went back to the hospital and he was about to be admitted; we got to the ward and waiting for others to be discharged because there was no available bed space at the time. As we were waiting, it was at that point he died,” the bereaved father said.

He said Kabir warned them to stop seeing his younger sister because they have a tradition in their family, if girls are in secondary school, they don’t authorise any relationship. After completion of the secondary school then they asked them to propose whoever they wish for formalisation.

Chief Medical Director of Malumfashi General Hospital, Dr. Abdulhamid Ahmed said late Kabir was rushed to the hospital on that Sunday night and discharged.

Ahmed added that the next day he was returned seriously  unconscious and was given intravenous drugs just to stabilise him; and as they were trying to get him admitted, Kabir died even before entering the ward.

“At the time we could only stablise him and refer him to other hospital because his condition needs to be examined further by a neuron surgeon because of the head injury,” he said.

Already the police command in the state has arrested three prime suspects, Hussaini Abdu Danshagamu, Abdulaziz Karim, both level 300 Business Administration students of the UMYU and Ibrahim Salisu, a level 100 Public Administration student of the same institution.

Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gambo Isah said on 20th of this month, one Kabiru Yaro of  Layin Minister in Malumfashi reported that on the 19th at about 11pm, his son Abdulmalik Kabir, had a misunderstanding with Hussaini Abdu Danshagamu also a boyfriend to Kabir’s sister (Amira) .

He said, Danshagamu connived with two others and beat up Kabir and as a result he sustained injuries that led to his death. 

Our reporter gathered the deceased was rushed to Malumfashi general hospital where he died on 20th at 11am.

Speaking on the incident, Danshagamu confirmed that he was in love with Amira for a while and they were separated when her father reported the matter to their school authority.

“Ever since then, I stayed away from her, I don’t even have her number,” he added.

Danshagamu further stated that, “On that fateful Sunday I returned to Malumfashi to pick my books at home and as we were sitting at our joint, Kabir came and attacked me from where the fight ensued. I never hold grudges against him, he was my good friend.”
