DevOps Engineer, Oluseye Onigbinde, has given insights on how to switch into the tech industry and be successful in it.

Onigbinde, an ex-banker, admonished those who are interested in switching to the tech industry to avoid a few “don’ts” which he said are capable of derailing their progress in the tech industry.
“Don’t stop learning, don’t fear failure, don’t stop communicating, and don’t stop networking.” Onigbinde told his audience on a Space on X (formerly twitter) organised by Schull.io.

The tech expert, who spoke on the theme Financial Empowerment & Career Growth Through Tech: Cloud/DevOps, shared with the audience how he was able to switch to the tech industry after a successful career as a banker.

He stated: “On April 24, 2024, I was the speaker at the X Space organised by Schull.io (@schull_io). I spoke on the topic, ‘Financial Empowerment & Career Growth Through Tech: Cloud/DevOps.’

“This space was attended by a lot of people new to tech and interested in cloud computing and DevOps roles. As a Certified Amazon Web Services (AWS) Solutions Architect and Developer with prior experience in Banking and Finance, I shared my experience on how I was able to switch into Tech and the pitfalls that should be avoided by tech newbies.”

“Transiting into tech was not an easy journey for me but along the path, I have learned about some pitfalls that people like me who are switching from non-tech roles into tech should avoid. When building a career in tech, there are certain ‘don’ts’ that you need to avoid as they may hinder your professional growth and accomplishments in the industry. By avoiding these ‘don’ts,’ you can easily navigate your path to success in the tech industry. These ‘don’ts’ are; don’t stop learning, don’t fear failure, don’t stop communicating, and don’t stop networking.”

Onigbinde told the participants that embracing Cloud and DevOps was not just a career choice but a pathway to financial empowerment and sustained career growth.

According to the DevOps Engineer, by mastering Cloud and DevOps we will be positioning ourselves at the forefront of innovation, driving efficiency and scalability in organizations while securing our place in the future of work.

He added: “I also highlighted the growing demand for Cloud and DevOps skills in the tech industry, emphasising how these fields are reshaping traditional IT roles and offering lucrative opportunities for professionals. I discussed the importance of continuous learning and certification, which can enhance your expertise and make you more competitive in the job market. Also, touched on the real-world applications of Cloud and DevOps in driving business innovation, improving operational efficiency, and enabling companies to scale rapidly.”

“Lastly, I mentioned the potential for entrepreneurship in these areas, as mastering these technologies can empower individuals to create their own tech solutions or startups.”
