‘How to end $3.8bn annual ICT imports’

Worried by the over $3.8bn annual information and communications technology (ICT) imports,  the Transparency Advocacy Initiative Nigeria (TAIN) and allied civil society groups have called for the utilization of indigenous ICT resources to create jobs and internal competencies.

In a press briefing in Abuja at the weekend, on behalf of the civil society groups, the Publicity Secretary of TAIN, Comr. Solomon Adodo, observed that if just $1bn of the import pay-outs was spent on local software and apps developers, it would have huge impact on capacity development and create hundreds of jobs for Nigerian youths.

The groups specifically lauded the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for initiating programmes that will develop Nigeria’s ICT infrastructure and local talents.
