The Jama’atut Tajdidil Islamy (JTI) said one of the surest ways to address insecurity in the country is for government to revive, reinvigorate and reintegrate the traditional justice system and administration across the country.

A communiqué issued at the end of its 2-day meeting in Kano signed by Abdulkadir Dangogo and Aliyu Diso said this strengthen information gathering and sharing, oversight, and response to social and security issues in their domain.

It stated that government must emphasise the strengthening of community policing initiative being implemented in states of the federation to enable adequate policing of all communities, detect and mitigate crimes.

“Institute adequate mechanisms for the resolution of communal crises involving farmers and herders and religious conflicts in the Middle Belt. Government should create a smooth working relationship with traditional, community, religious, women and youth leaders in areas affected by and those prone to insecurity to enable information sharing and synergy in tackling the menace” the communiqué said.

It also urged governments to make adequate provisions to reclaim established grazing reserves and routes as well as watering points for cattle and other animals thereby reducing to the barest minimum conflicts between herders and farmers.
