Mrs Inimfon Colonel, is the Director of HighFliers Hub in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. She is a partner and 3 Star Director with Longrich International. The graduate of Microbiology from the University of Uyo speaks on growing rich through multi-level marketing business.
How did you get to the position of 3 Star Director in Longrich?
I like to start with what got me motivated; my why. In Uyo here, I finished my youth service and started looking for job but I didn’t find any. Somehow, I got a private job in a travel and tours company where I was earning N25,000. For me, it was a good pay, at least I would be leaving the house, but I found out after I got three months’ salary, the money was never enough.
It was at that point that I remembered that a friend had brought an opportunity to me. Earlier, I was helping my friend to sell because she brought the products to me. I had used them and they were fantastic. Everything she told me about the products was exactly what she related. It was that day that it dawned on me that I was making money for my friend. I told myself, ‘why not start the business’. So, I started with N68,000.
How did you become a 3 Star Director?
It has been six years of consistently building. In fact, I had to unlearn everything I knew about Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). I used to think that in multi-level marketing, you just go around selling but when I got on board the platform I am today, the Longrich Business platform, I found out that I needed to read, find out what people were doing that was making them succeed. In the multi-level marketing sector, you need to work with a team. You cannot succeed alone. It is the team work that makes the dream work.
Most people have the notion that your products are meant for the elite and high income earners. How true is that?
Most people don’t understand the value of the products because if they do, they will actually know that they are delivering themselves from spending more money. It is for us to get people to understand why they need to switch their brand.
Now our toothpaste for example doesn’t have fluoride, meanwhile most toothpastes that we have in the market contain fluoride. I need you to understand that another word for multi-level marketing is word of mouth advertisement. I tell people, it is the easiest way for anyone coming into the market to grab the market.
Are you not worried that all these products are imported, mostly from China, and we don’t have the local branch in Nigeria; that it drains foreign exchange from the country?
Longrich is a company that has come to stay and one of the things that they have done to show that they have come to stay in Nigeria is that they are building their factory here in Nigeria, at Lekki Free Trade Zone. The Lagos State government opened their hands to receive Longrich and also gave us a massive plot of land. Right now the construction is going on and very soon, we will have the manufacturing plant running.
As a female entrepreneur, how have you being able to balance business and the homefront?
It’s not been easy, because it takes a whole lot, especially when you are building. The foundation aspect is where the energy is, it needs your attention, and sometimes you have to travel. But I want to thank God for my very supportive husband; he has given me the freedom to fly, and he is very supportive, very understanding.
Another person that has helped me balance my business and homefront is my mom. Most times, I have to travel, she is the one that comes to take care of the children.
What would you advise women who are looking for a business to go into?
One of the things I noticed that women in this part of the world like to do is open shops. Yes, we don’t have jobs, so the next thing is that you want to start a business and they all want to open a shop. One advise I keep giving them is that business has moved from shops, these days, business is in the air; a lot of transactions are happening. You spend so much money to open a shop, stock the shop and at the end of the day, nobody buys from you.
In multi-level marketing, you learn the process of business, you learn the process of advertising and understand that you need to refer people; you need to talk about your business for people to come to you.
It is presumed that some things from China are substandard. Have there been any challenges with NAFDAC, Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and other regulatory bodies?
There, you give them your specifications and they give you what you want. So most times our people go there to ask for substandard products because they want to make more money. Our products have been approved by NAFDAC. The Head of NAFDAC as at then, attended one of our meetings.
