A Muslim cleric and member of the Conference of Islamic Organization (CIO), Sheikh Dhikirullah Shafi’I, has said illiteracy could be tackled by empowering teachers at all levels.
Delivering a public lecture organized by The Muslim Congress (TMC) at Alhaji Salaudeen Oladejo Memorial Mosque in Osogbo, Osun State, Shafi’i decried the plight of teachers and said the illiteracy level would decline if teachers were adequately motivated. Sheikh Shafi’i said in countries like Singapore and Germany, where teachers are inspired and motivated, there is record of high literacy levels.
He urged the public to seek for knowledge saying, “knowledge is the key to positive change, without knowledge, people would perish. Anyone who wants to stand for change must seek for knowledge. Prayer alone cannot bring about change; it must start from the soul.”
