The cars he sought to purchase for the first lady included four bullet proof limousine’s Mercedes Benz ML550, ML5500, BMW550 and a Honda Accord V6, 2009 model as well as two ordinary cars all estimated at N230m by the company chief executive. The cars are to be added to the fleet of cars on the entourage of the First Lady, according to the aide.

When the Barbedos executive demanded payment after completing the N230m transaction, the first lady’s top aide now requested for proforma invoice.  A proforma invoice is an invoice issued before goods are ordered as an indication of the price that will be paid as a form of quotation. El-Wazir also told the car dealers that the payment will be made when they get to the First Lady in the presidential villa, a demand which created suspicion among the car dealers.

This prompted their decision to invite detectives from the Kaduna state command of the State Security Service (SSS).  When the plain clothes operatives arrested him at the car dealers’ depot, the bubble burst as he confessed to be impersonating.

Parading the suspect, the Assistant Director of Operations of the SSS in Kaduna, Barrister Brown Ekwoabe, said the suspect was arrested when he attempted to defraud a car dealer of about N230 million while claiming to be running an errand for the First Lady.

“When he arrived at the car dealer’s office, he paraded himself as a senior staff in the presidency, a Special Adviser to the First Lady,’’ he said. On interrogation, he said the suspect who claimed to be the son of the current chairman of Kontogora Local Government, confessed to be impersonating, explaining that the warrant card in his custody identifying him as a Special Adviser was to aid his illegal operations.

Items found in his position  include three chequebooks of a new second generation bank, the picture he had with his ‘foreign partners’, his father’s picture and another taken at the National Assembly premises, Abuja.
