Chairman of the Ministerial Expert Advisory Committee Dr Aliyu Modibbo Umar says it mobilised human, financial and material resources to support the FCTA in putting up the COVID-19 Isolation and Treatment Centre with 506 bed capacity at Idu, Abuja.

The former FCT minister, who spoke on Monday during the commissioning of the facility by the incumbent minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, said the 28-member committee was broken into four sub-committees comprising medical, logistics, resource mobilisation and public affairs and media and also co-opted several volunteers and other experts who all worked pro-bono.

“Their reward is the pleasure of having to serve Abuja, the city they all love and cherish,” he said.

Dr Modibbo also reminded residents of the FCT that COVID-19 is indeed real and that everyone should be committed to fighting the dangerous and debilitating disease.

He thanked the FCT minister for granting them the opportunity to serve and pledged the willingness of members to continue to work hard until the disease is eradicated from the FCT and nationwide.

Also present at the event were the Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, the Permanent Secretary, FCTA, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Malam Bashir Mai-Borno, officials from the NCDC and WHO as well as senior members of staff of the FCTA.

Bello used the opportunity to appreciate companies and individuals that contributed to the establishment of the Idu Isolation and Treatment Centre, which included; Future Assured Foundation under the leadership of Her Excellency, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari; Polaris Bank Limited; Fate Foundation; Julius Berger Nig. PLC; HIS Towers; CCECC; Abuja Electricity Distribution Company; Salini Nig. Ltd; HITS Furniture Ltd; Yaliam Press; Senator Aishatu (Binani) Dahiru Ahmed; and Mohammed Jibrin.

Malam Bello also commended the committee for working with all relevant FCT agencies, saying it has contributed immensely to the containment of the virus in the territory.
