The husband of deceased mother of four, Charity Aiyegbodun, has narrated how he, accompanied by police investigators, discovered the corpse of his murdered wife in June, 2016.

Mrs. Aiyegbodun, who was declared missing on May 10, 2016, after she separated from her husband and moved to a rented apartment in Abuja, was discovered to have been killed by a gang close to her.

The police charged Ezeugwu Paul Chukwujekwu (27), Adogah Emmanuel (33) and Ephraim Emeka Ugwuonye (49) with a four-count charge of culpable homicide before an FCT High Court in Apo over her death.

At the resumed hearing yesterday, the husband of the deceased, David Shola Aiyegbodun, testified that both Chukwujekwu and Adogah confessed in recorded statements to killing the deceased and dismembering her body. He stated that a gray-coloured Acura ZDX 2012 model with registration number: ASH225AH with original number plate he purchased for his wife on one of her birthdays and other items were recovered from the defendants.

He narrated that Chukwujekwu admitted that he brought the rope with which they tied the deceased while Adogah brought the knife with which her head was cut off.

Led in evidence by police lawyer, E.O. Ochayi, the witness stated that the defendants separately admitted to have disposed the body of the deceased at Usman Dam, Kagini, along Kubwa-Deidei Road.

“The 1st defendant (Chukwujekwu) took us to where they disposed off the body around Bwari Road around Usman Dam. The 1st defendant said the head of the deceased was thrown 100 yards in the bush from where they threw the body, but the second defendant (Adogah) said the head was thrown along with the body at the same spot,” he said.

In a statement to the police, Chukwujekwu reportedly stated that he became friends with the 45-year-old woman through Facebook and she made him relocate from Ghana where he was engaged in Yahoo Yahoo (Internet fraud) after he dropped out of university.

He said the idea to kill her came when she offended him. He said the third defendant, a US-returnee lawyer, Ugwuonye, who he referred to as Emmy Boss, suggested he duped her or collect her property for sale. And that that was how they hatched the plan to kill her and dump her body.

The trial judge, Justice Modupe Osho-Adebiyi, adjourned the case to May 16 and 17 for further hearing.
