This wasn’t like any other music event. It was a jazz fiesta, and one to remember.
From the invitation, this event sounded like most Christmas musicals, intriguing. How wrong I was. It turned out to be my best experience this Christmas.
It was December 26, Boxing Day, the day set aside for sharing of gifts. So, capping it up at the Redeem Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) Throne Room Parish in the Transcorp Hilton was ideal.
The moment I stepped foot into the premises of the Hilton, I smelt the Christmas spirit in the air. Then I entered the hotel’s Congress Hall. People posed on a red carpet and a little girl of about two years of age took the spotlight. She was such a beauty to behold. There was music pouring out of the auditorium and the crowd was ecstatic. Both the upper and lower rooms were jampacked. There were guests from abroad, from the Philippines, Japan, and Jamaica.
RCCG is pastored by Tunde Benjamin, whose wife Dayo Benjamin played host to the jazz evening. When it’s jazz, it means you are bound to hear the instruments outshine even the voices as far as I am concerned. And this was the case. Bands, choirs, duets took the night and made it special amid fantastic stage lighting.
Popular songs like ‘Joy to the World’, filled the air. Violins, saxophones wafted through the hall and ‘Silent Night’ was sung with soul. One particularly exciting moment was Bidemi Treasure’s performance with the saxophone. It almost made one cry and then all at once it lifts your spirit.
Mrs. Benjamin took a moment to appreciate the Nigerian military during the event, and there was a standing ovation for their ongoing efforts against terrorism.
RCCG is having a crossover night on New Year’s Eve by 9am. If it would be anything as close to the joy I experienced during the White Jazz event, then it’s certainly the place to seek God for the New Year.
