Hewlett-Packard Incorporation (HP) has said its officials in Nigeria in collaboration with the Standard Organization of Nigeria have confiscated more than 15,000 counterfeit items, including fake toners and ink cartridges between November last year and March, 2016.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, the country’s Managing Director, HP Incorporated, Mrs Ify Afe said the rate at which criminally minded people fake HP products is worrisome, adding that between November 2015 and March, local officials including the Standard Organization of Nigeria also busted several companies from manufacturing and distributing fake printing supplies for HP printers.
But she said customers’ protection is critical in its fight against products counterfeiting.
This according to the firm informed its Anti -Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) programme for channel partner and customer protection in Europe, Middle East and Africa )EMEA).
The ACF is an initiative to actively protect its customers from purchasing fake and fraudulent goods available in the market.
According to her, through ACF HP is also educating its consumers and the general public on how to identify original products from the firm.
The HP managing director urged companies to buy from HP authorised dealers and to explicitly ask for HP originals while customers can also call the company’s free Customers Delivery Inspections (CDIs) in case of receiving a delivery of suspicious cartridges.
