The chairman of the organisation, Alhaji Ado Mohammed said the NGO was disturbed by the level of poverty and degeneration among the handicapped, women and youth.

According to him, the organisation intended to set up tea and beverages joints to be called Shayi Plaza in all nooks and crannies of the country to provide opportunities to those who could only live on menial jobs in one place. He said the first of those joints would be due for commission next month in Kano.

He said such plazas would have tea and drink spots, snack bar, suya stand, fura bar, phone booth, local food stand, games and viewing centres. The chairman explained that the whole initiative was conceived out of the need to “save the society the embarrassment of perennial social crises.”

Other measures to tackle the problem of poverty, said the chairman, included the establishment of a data bank that would contain the essential variables on the youths and women in each of the 36 states of the federation.

He said the organisation would then set up a training camp to train and educate the participants in order to enhance their employment potentials and at the same time instil a sense of moral responsibility in them. He said the camping would involve physical drills, teaching of basic skills and other vocational training.

At the end of the training, he disclosed the NGO would solicit empowerment for the trainees, using the medium of the three tiers of government, namely, the private sector, philanthropic o0rganisations as well as patriotic Nigerians and individuals in order to turn these two segments into useful members of the society.
