Human Rights Activist fetes beggars to mark birthday

A human rights activist, Comrade Amitolu Shittu has further displayed his passion for the deprived as he celebrated his 53 birthday with beggars at his residence in Osogbo, capital of Osun State.

The beggars who thronged Amitolu’s residence in large number sat in the front seats at the venue, enjoyed special attention and they were treated as Very Important Personalities (VIPs) throughout the event.

Amitolu, a renowned human rights activist is the founder of the Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People (CDRP) and he is also the Chairman of the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) in Osun State.

The beggars showered Amitolu with prayers as they lauded the activist for hosting them to mark his birthday.

In their comments, some of the beggars who spoke on the occasion said Amitolu has been defending them and protecting their interest particularly whenever they were being oppressed.

Speaking on the occasion, Amitolu said he feels very comfortable relating with the poor and vowed that he would continue to fight for and defend the rights of the people, especially the less-privileged.

Some of the dignitaries at the event include the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola and Senator Mudasiru Hussain.

Prominent traditional rulers in the state including the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba AbdulRasheed Olabomi and the Akirun of Ikirun, Oba Rauf Adedeji also attended the event.
