Now Toyota is putting in the market the 2012 Hilux and if you’re after something SUV-related but don’t have a Range Rover Evoque-like budget, this one could be a plan with the Japanese automaker ensuring the latest Hilux has more car comforts than ever before.

While the exterior is still well ‘ard and the suspension will withstand pretty much any madness, the new interior styling creates a more car-like environment.

Toyota has added some much-needed technology to what has traditionally been a pretty basic car on the inside with the introduction of Touch, a touchscreen multimedia unit as well as Bluetooth, a USB port and the extremely useful rear view camera as standard on the upper end models.

On the outside, there has been a serious overhaul design-wise with new bonnet, grille, headlights and bumper and the top-of-the-range (and awesomely named) Hilux Invincible has new wheel designs, new side bars and new steps. The Invincible also features new chrome surround for the instrument binnacle.

A diesel particulate filter has been added to both engines to ensure Euro 5 emissions compliance, lower CO2 emissions compared to the last model at 194g/km and better fuel economy. The two engines are a 142bhp 2.5-litre and a 169bhp 3.0-litre. Combined fuel economy for the 2.5-litre engine is 38.7mpg. Meanwhile, emissions on the 3.0-litre version are 227g/km on the automatic and 203g/km on the manual with fuel economy at 32.8mpg and 36.7mpg respectively. The Invincible also has the option of a five-speed automatic gearbox.

We don’t know whether Nigeria will have this version as an option but it does look attractive for a pick-up truck. Let us see what Elizade Motors will be offering for 2012.
